BASIC survival to limit / prevent pop ups.
1. Contrary to popular belief the "private browsing" feature each computer has is an effective tool. (it literally provides ZERO anonymity) but what it does do is prevent your PC from downloading unwanted cookies, etc. In that mode every website treats you like its the 1st time you've ever been to the site. Your IP /MAC address etc is 100% visible to others in private mode. Privacy ISN'T it's function, google got sued for $5 BILLION an lost because they led everyone to believe you were safe and unknown. But its still helpful for your problem, somewhat-ish. Cookies / scripts can & often will continue to run on your PC long after youve logged off a particular website. Think of it like you opened your front door to a stranger, they walk into your home, plop down on the couch and refuse to leave. And then he invites all his buddies over. Whacha gonna do at that point? Situation FUBAR.
2. ad blockers - careful youre not actually downloading more problems as they demand access to things youd never wish to give access to. But helpful.
3.stop using windows
4. anti-virus protection.
5.full system scan, odds are if youre to the point you get pop ups constantly youre well infected.
6. turn your security settings back to something safe.
7. turn on pop up / redirect settings in microsoft settings, edge, chrome, Opera, etc
8. Switch to Linux.
These are basics, the rabbit hole is eternal, but at the end of the day its not the site thats the problem (ahem) rather the user. If youre not scanning each link and download PRIOR to running/opening/saving etc then its 100% on you when your PC suddenly demands $500 to unlock it. There are much more effective measures but this isnt the forum for such in depth mumbo.
